About:

Dr. Chen received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Sydney, Australia in 1996 and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, also from the University of Sydney in 2000.  Dr. Chen completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Eating & Weight Disorders at Yale University under Kelly Brownell, Ph.D. and Marlene Schwartz, Ph.D. in 2002.  She has recently completed a second postdoctoral fellowship in Behavioral Research and Therapy with Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. at the University of Washington in 2005. Dr. Chen is the runs the adult component of the Eating and Weight Disorders Program.

Research Interests:

  • Treatment development for adult eating and weight disorders
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy
  • Psychophysiological and behavioral neuroscience assessment of emotion dysregulation
  • Predictors of outcome in bariatric surgery patients
Current Studies:
  • Correlates of suicidality in surgery-seeking clients with severe obesity (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention)
  • Treatment for women with Bulimia Nervosa and Major Depression (NARSAD, The Mental Health Research Foundation)
  • Psychosocial treatment for women with Binge-Eating Disorder and (NIMH)
