About:
Melanie Marklein, M.S., is an extern at the University of Chicago’s Eating Disorders
Program
providing cognitive-behavioral therapy for a NIMH-funded binge-eating
disorder
treatment study for adult women. Melanie earned her B.S. degree in
psychology
at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she worked as a research
assistant for Lyn Abramson, Ph.D. and Diane Gooding, Ph.D. Melanie is
currently
an advanced doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology Program at
the
University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She has two years of clinical
experience working with depression, anxiety disorders, eating and body
image
disturbances, and adjustment disorders in college students from an
interpersonal and psychodynamic perspective. Melanie recently completed
her Master’s
thesis, Investigating the Role of Family
Background, Cultural Idealization of Thinness, and Core Beliefs in the
Development of Disordered Eating Among College Women. As the Eating
Disorders Graduate Assistant for the University of Illinois Counseling
Center,
Melanie serves on the Eating Disorders and Disturbances Treatment Team,
provides outreach and consultation, and supervises the development and
facilitation of psychoeducational workshops by undergraduate Counseling Center
paraprofessionals. Melanie’s professional goal is to practice in an
eating
disorder treatment setting emphasizing a holistic approach to recovery.
